YB Nik Nazmi Bin Nik Ahmad

Minister of Natural Resources & Environmental Sustainability

YB Nik Nazmi is the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability of Malaysia, and Member of Parliament for Setiawangsa. His Ministry oversees the nation's comprehensive environmental governance, and has launched several key initiatives to combat climate change and enhance climate resilience.

Malaysia aspires to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. We have set ambitious targets to mitigate and adapt to climate change, aligning with the global goal of limiting temperature rise to 1.5°C, achieving 70% renewable energy capacity by 2050 and a complete phase-out of coal. Climate financing will be a critical enabler across all sectors given the capex expenditure and enabling mechanisms, such as incentive schemes and technical support required. His speech would highlight Malaysia's urgent need for substantial climate finance to address the escalating impacts of climate change, emphasising the necessity for innovative financial strategies and robust public-private partnerships.
